Code of conduct

For use of WhatsApp or other online messaging groups for Coogee Public P&C associated communication

  1. The primary means of communication between P&C and parents is via P&C Buzz and class parent emails. WhatsApp is an additional form of communication. It should be limited to last minute updates and class-related communication eg. reading helpers, class social activities.

  2. Parents or other members of the school community should not be required to join a WhatsApp group in order to receive communication from the P&C and/or a class parent.

  3. WhatsApp group messages should be relevant to all or predominantly all members of the group (otherwise messages should be sent privately).

  4. WhatsApp group messages should be related to the purpose of the group to avoid confusion and unnecessary messages in each WhatsApp group (eg class parent messages should not be sent in groups set up for other purposes eg. sport groups).

  5. Communication on all P&C related WhatsApp groups should be treated as public communication. Confidential information or views you would not raise in person should not be raised on a WhatsApp Group. Concerns about teachers, the school, a particular student or students should be addressed directly to the school and not be raised in WhatsApp groups.

  6. Be respectful to volunteers, including class parents, moderators, other members of the WhatsApp Group and other members of the Coogee Public School and Community when participating in WhatsApp groups.
